MOROCCO
Quotes
are by Tomas from "The Falcon Room."

"The
foothills of the rugged Rif Mountains, Hassad’s territory,
begin to rise somewhere near Tetouan, the largest town in
the area and where he had spent his adolescent years. Fascinated,
I had read about his people in my guidebook; the Riffians
were a Spanish-influenced people known for their rebelliousness
and wildness."
Packs
of Rifs hung around the road: the women, dressed in red
and white striped cotton costumes and huge straw hats with
tassels and selling cheese and honey; the men trying to
peddle things to motorists: cheap radios, cameras, clothing—things
smuggled out of the duty-free port of Ceuta. And then there
were the young men that offered you kif, popping out of
the brush and standing right in the open, pretending to
roll a joint.
